What in the world is going on with the Montreal Canadiens?

The Habs have gone from the league’s lowest-finishing team to qualify for playoffs, to the first team to qualify for the Stanley Cup semifinals. Say all you want about the North Division being weaker than others, but that’s a very impressive feat no matter how you slice it.

It’s not just that they’ve been winning. They’ve been dominating.

The Habs are currently riding a 7-game win streak, with their last loss coming in Game 4 of the 1st round vs. Toronto. In that time, they haven’t even trailed their opponent once. The 437:53 worth of time on ice without trailing is good for second most all-time in playoffs.

Only the 1960 Habs had a longer streak.

NOTE: This graphic was from before their latest win.

With the new mark of 437:53, the current Habs sit less than 51 minutes behind their record-holding predecessor. In other words, if the Habs win Game 1 against the winner of Colorado/Vegas without giving up a lead, they will be the new record holder for longest playoff streak without trailing.

Not bad for a bottom-seeded team.
