Hollywood has lost another icon.
On Thursday afternoon, news broke that actor Burt Reynolds passed away from cardiac arrest at the age of 82. Reynolds starred in such films as Paul Thomas Anderson’s Boogie Nights (1997), Evening Share (1990) and as quarterback Paul crewe in the original Longest Yard (1974). The Lansing, Michigan native had a passion for sports, and even came close to making it as a pro. Reynolds played for Florida State University where he was forced to call it quits after suffering a pair of knee injuries. After his death, the football world and others took to social media to pay their respect.
Reynolds made his way back onto the field, this time as a coach in the remake of the Longest Yards, in which he worked alongside Adam Sandler and Chris Rock. Movie fans can agree that it’s probably in the category of one of the funnier sports movies ever to be made (The Replacements is definitely up there, too).
The guy knew how to work it on the gridiron.
