Some players just prefer a tad bit of extra flex on their stick.

The big boys like Zdeno Chara prefer a stiffer twig that allows them to fire clappers home from the blue line. But some of the more skilled player like a bit more whip, and Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews is no exception. The Maple Leafs superstar recently posed in a photo to promote Bauer’s new NEXUS 2N Pro, and nearly snapped the thing in half by the looks of it. Check it out:

There may have been a taddddddd bit of photo-shopping done, but that’s pretty insane nonetheless.

Now that we’re on the topic, there are some other players that are worth mentioning. While Alex Ovechkin probably comes to mind, there are a few that use such little flex that it’s surprising they’re even playing in the NHL with it. Here are a couple:

55 flex in the NHL?! That’s just nuts.

In an interview with Bauer, Matthews revealed that he uses an 80 flex stick with a Sakic curve, a pretty whippy stick when you consider his large frame. It’s no wonder this guy already has one of the more wicked wrist shots in the league.

(H/T Auston Matthews)
