Trade rumours involving big name players have been swirling since the season ended and on Saturday, one of those rumours turned out to be true.
Dougie Hamilton of the Calgary Flames was rumoured to be on the move and as per Bob McKenzie and Pierre LeBrun, he's off to Carolina in what is reportedly a massive five-player deal.
No picks involved, it's the five players: Lindholm and Hanifin for Hamilton, Ferland and Fox. As I reported yesterday, the negotiating meeting between Lindholm's agent and the Hurricanes did not go well, paving the way for this trade

Hamilton, Ferland and Fox heading to Carolina.
— Bob McKenzie (@TSNBobMcKenzie) June 23, 2018
All players, no picks and three big names involved as Hamilton will be joining the Hurricanes while Hanifin and Lindholm reunite with their old bench boss Bill Peters in Calgary. There's nothing like a big trade to get the hockey world talking and deals don't get much bigger than this, so the hockey world had a lot to say.Noah Hanifin too

Brad I sure hope you know what you're doing otherwise you just signed your own resignation letter

Love this trade
— jerrickdelorme (@Y2KJericho) June 23, 2018
Great deal! Hamilton supposedly didn’t click in the dressing room whatever that means. Flames needed a top 6 right handed forward, Brodie can play right side now where he excels. And Fox doesn’t look like he was going to sign with us.

Pretty good deal if you ask me. Hanifin is gonna be our top d in a year or so and Lindholm could slide in on the first line with Mony and Johnny

Sign Fox please
— Alex James (@wolfpackalexj) June 23, 2018
Remember, if you don’t sign Freddie Hamilton Dougie will demand a trade

From a Flames fan, Thank you. Take good care of Dougie. We will take care of your boys over here.

Hate to see Hanifin go, he was going to become such an amazing defensemen. But I do like Hamilton and Ferland, I think they add nicely to our team.

What are you thinking??
— Hydeman80 (@Hydeman80) June 23, 2018
Dammit I had Hanifin as one of my personal collections in hockey cards, now I gotta burn them!
— cobra123 (@cobra01234) June 23, 2018
Lol not a great trade for Calgary. Top d man, top winger and a high upside prospect for a 2C and a strong young player
— Craig (@Craigers88) June 23, 2018
LOL canes are stupid

Not sure how a flames fan is supposed to feel about this? #whowon
— Jason Ploof (@JasonPloof) June 23, 2018
Now we know why Carolina did not make trades before and Francis got fired. Bad start for the new GM.
— Leigh (@flyersfan1953) June 23, 2018
Wow! Calgary hits the jackpot
— Mike De Marinis (@Eazzy_Riderr) June 23, 2018
Calgary definitely win this trade. Hanifin and Hamiltion are similar point producers and Lindholm over Ferland any day. Fox is just an added bonus for Carolina.
— Zach (@TheGalloway24) June 23, 2018
This is even. A great hockey deal.
— Grundstrom Is Coming (@leafschirp) June 23, 2018
Adam Fox will be better than everyone in this trade.

#Flames GM, Treliving never afraid to pull the trigger... I like the deal but will it work this time? Results need to follow. https://t.co/U2riqxqoeU
