Hockey and dogs makes for one of the best combinations around, so when a dog race breaks out during the intermission at a hockey game it basically becomes the greatest place on earth.

During Wednesday night’s game between the Vancouver Canucks and the Minnesota Wild, the Canucks hosted the first ever Top Dog race and the six contestants were players' dogs.

Gus Horvat, Emma Pearson, Lilli Benn, Riley Tanev, Zeus Gaudette and Phoebe Stetcher were the contestants, and they all gave it their all from beginning to end.

But it was Tanner Pearson’s dog, Emma, who came out on top.

More teams need to follow in the Canucks' footsteps with this one and whoever did come up with this idea deserves a raise.
