A couple of former Anaheim Ducks will see their numbers raised to the rafters this season.

The team announced that former captains Paul Kariya and Scott Niedermayer will both be honoured in the upcoming campaign. Each player has already been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Kariya served as the face of the franchise since joining the organization as the fourth overall pick in the 1993 draft. Over the course of 989 regular season games between the Ducks, Colorado Avalanche, Nashville Predators and St. Louis Blues, Kariya went on to record exactly 989. His most notable season came in the 2002-03 campaign when he led the Mighty Ducks within one game of winning the Stanley Cup. Ironically enough, his team ultimately fell to Niedermayer’s Devils.

Niedermayer, on the other hand, managed to win three Stanley Cups throughout his career; his last coming with the Ducks in 2007. He was named the Conn Smythe winner in the same Cup run on a stacked Ducks roster which included Chris Pronger, his brother Rob, and Teemu Selanne, to name a few.

The jerseys will be lifted on October 21 in front of what’s sure to be a packed Honda Centre.
