Theme nights are nothing new in the world of hockey, but the OHL’s Ottawa 67s are taking things to a new level by embracing a fan-favourite TV show. On Friday, as they host the Peterborough Petes, the 67s will be holding their ‘Dunder Mifflin Night’ inspired by The Office.
They’ll be rocking these special one-off jerseys for the occasion, and of course, you know they had to remake the show’s iconic intro with some local sights from around Ottawa and their own “office” of sorts, TD Place.
This isn’t the first time a sports team has shown its love for The Office — the NFL’s Cleveland Browns shared their own remake of the show’s theme song before their season began. Unlike the 67s, they never played in any themed jerseys of their own, but we suppose the NFL has less flexibility with that than the OHL does.
(And after posting this to the internet, the Browns went on to go 7-8-1 this season, which is a monumental turnaround from previous years. Fact: The Office is good karma.)
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL need to get in on this trend. (Fun fact: They were actually featured, by way of a custom jersey, in “Michael’s Birthday” from season 2.)
