Hockey is full of clichés... y'know?
The style, lingo, you name it, hockey has it. And they're not just restricted to the players! Coaches have their own share as well, and if you played hockey other than beer league then you've definitely heard some of them. So without further ado, let's review five of the best (and most common) ones.
PUCKS IN DEEP!!!!
The most common of the bunch. Nothing infuriates a coach more than a turnover at the blue line, so get those pucks in deep and avoid getting an earful! This one's often used when a coach needs a line change, too.
DUMP AND CHASE
When you need a good forecheck and a bit of energy... DUMP AND CHASE BABY!!!! Don't expect coach to yell this top to the first two lines, but the third and fourth should expect it more. Dump and chase... such a classic.
WHEEL! WHEEL!!!!
The tendy should be the person yelling this one but expect coach to yell it from the bench, too. When a coach sees daylight for a defenceman coming around their own net... brace yourself for a WHEEL!!!!! WHEEL!!!!
20 MILES, 20 SMILES
Heading into the third period? 20 miles, 20 smiles, baby (20 miles of course refers to the number of minutes in the final frame). Pretty cheesy, but always a good thing to hear.
TWO! TWO!!!!
Need a reminder that you're on a two-on-one? Don't worry, coach has your back. Expect him/her to literally stick two fingers up from the bench as well... because you can totally see that while on the two-on-one, right?. Makes no sense!
Look, there are so many to choose from. "Cycle" is definitely another good one, "battle" too, but we decided to go with our best. Which one is your favourite of the bunch?
