The Buffalo Sabres finished dead last in the NHL last season with an abysmal 62 points following a 25-45-12 record.

Fast forward to the present day, and the Sabres sit first in the entire National Hockey League with a 17-6-2 record (36 points) on the heels of a ten-game winning streak.

With their 3-2 overtime victory over the Sharks on Tuesday thanks to Jeff Skinner's 19th of the season, the Sabres are now eight wins shy of matching their season total from the 2017/18 campaign.

By slotting into first overall in the league, the Sabres made history with their stellar start after reaching the 25-game mark.

Combined with Carter Hutton emerging as a No. 1 goaltender, and Jeff Skinner lighting up the scoresheet slotted next to Jack Eichel on what's becoming one of the dangerous lines in hockey, the Sabres appear to be turning a corner and accelerating the rebuild in the right direction.

And for fan base that's suffered as long as they have, you can't help but feel happy for organization and the people of Buffalo. Is there a better story in hockey right now?
