It was a golden night for Canada in Beijing on Thursday as the Canadian women’s ice hockey team defeated Team USA 3-2 to capture the gold medal at the Olympics.

From the very first puck drop in the tournament to the final whistle in the gold medal game, the Canadians gave it their all and proved to be unstoppable. Along the way, Sarah Nurse set a new Olympic record for the most assists and points in a single women’s Olympics, while Marie Philip-Poulin became the first player to score a goal in four Olympic gold medal games.

The medal is Canada’s 19th at the Beijing Winter Games and their fourth gold, and it’s the Canadian women’s hockey team’s fifth gold medal all-time at the Olympics.

The time difference didn’t stop many fans from across the country from staying up later than usual and a lot of them showed their support for the players after the game.

The Canadians also set a record for most goals in a single tournament by scoring 57 goals in just seven games.
