He’s done it again! Everybody’s favorite coach at the World Juniors, Switzerland’s rather outspoken Christian Wohlwend, has come through with yet another highly memorable soundbite.
This time, after the Swiss were thoroughly thumped in the semi-final game against Finland, Wohlwend was asked about turning the attention of his team to the bronze medal game against Russia. His response is... spicy.
Just when you thought this guy couldn’t be any more of an absolute legend. If Switzerland comes out tomorrow looking like world-beaters against the Russians, we’re certainly going to be thinking about this quote.
And seriously, if you search his name on the internet, it isn’t hard to find scores of NHL fans wishing for their teams to hire Wohlwend. While we can’t say much either way of his credentials in comparison to other coaches-in-waiting, it certainly speaks to the way he’s won people over by just, well, saying a lot.
It all started last year, when he gave a brutally honest answer about how Canada would dominate his team in the quarter-finals. After a more competitive finish this year, which saw Canada escape with a well-played 3-2 win against the Swiss, Wohlwend was much more enthusiastic about his team — and after his team outlived Canada in the playoffs, he could only thank “the hockey spirits.”
