The Duke Blue Devils were stunned on Sunday, being knocked out in the Elite Eight round of March Madness by No. 2 Michigan State.
R.J. Barrett had a chance to tie the game with five seconds left, but missed a crucial free throw. While he’s taken and accepted his share of fault in the loss, he has another notable Canadian baller in his corner as well: his godfather Steve Nash.
Barrett is expected to declare for this year’s NBA draft, and Nash is high on his prospects.
Of course Nash is going to pull for Barrett, but seriously, who is better qualified to talk about playmaking in the NBA than Nash? He knows the game at the pro level, and what it takes to succeed as a passer.
Barrett gets more attention for his scoring prowess, but his emerging playmaking game has also been a point of interest, and it could be a key factor in how he translates to the NBA. He averaged 4.3 assists this year, part of a terrific freshman season overall.
