The offseason came and went with almost no noise on the Carmelo Anthony front. It’s been just over a full year since his last NBA game with the Houston Rockets, and then he languished on the end of the roster until near the trade deadline when he was salary-dumped to the Chicago Bulls and subsequently waived.

Well, he's back now. On Thursday, the injury-ridden Portland Trail Blazers signed Melo to a non-guaranteed contract.

Melo’s last two NBA stints with the Rockets and the Oklahoma City Thunder were both short-lived and ended in being offloaded for salary cap purposes. Still, though, the future Hall of Famer commands a lot of respect from his peers around the league, and Melo was open in public about wanting to end his career on a better note.

He’ll get his chance in Portland, where an injury to starting power forward Zach Collins led the Blazers to start rookie Nassir Little against the Raptors.

Stars around the league are thrilled to see Melo back in basketball.
