There’s no two ways about it, fighting in hockey has become scarce.
The role of the enforcer is almost extinct, and hockey has sped up exponentially, becoming more skill-focused than ever before.
But that doesn't mean we don’t appreciate a good KO every now and again.
That’s exactly what St. Louis Blues prospect and current Barrie Colt, Tyler Tucker, gave us when he delivered a lights-out blow to his opponent in this spirited tild at the Barrie Molson Centre.
That’s old-time hockey.
Tucker was a 7th round draft pick for the Blues, and the 6’1”, 201 lb defenseman is known league-wide for his gritty style of play, even dropping the gloves for a statement fight at St. Louis’ rookie tournament this past September.
Apparently, the 2000-born player from Longlac, Ontario, isn’t just a physical blue liner, but has also put up an impressive 33 points in his 43 games played so far this season. This puts him at 10th best among defensemen in the league. Coincidentally, he also sits 10th in the OHL for penalty minutes, with 63.
If he does end up making it to the big league, we’re hoping he doesn’t lose this grittiness, because we are thoroughly impressed.
Also, because we know we’d never be on the receiving end.
