For over 20 years, director Spike Lee has been a staple in his courtside seat at New York Knicks games, and he probably ranks right alongside Jack Nicholson for the most well-known celebrity fan in the NBA.

On Monday night, however, a video of Lee in an argument with Madison Square Garden security while trying to enter the arena made the rounds online.

The Knicks said that Lee had tried to enter through the employee entrance and that the issue was resolved after team CEO James Dolan spoke with Lee at halftime — he was in his usual sideline seat for the second half.

However, Lee described this as “Garden spin” and he appeared on ESPN’s First Take to provide his version of events, adding that he’s done with the team for the season.

The Knicks have... fired back. This statement is pretty spicy by PR standards, disparaging the idea that Lee is a victim and adding a photo of Lee and Dolan shaking hands.
