Canadian hockey fans, we feel ya.

After one of the most dominant tournament performances in World Junior history, where Team Canada outscored their opponents 37-3 through their first six games played and didn’t allow a single even strength goal, it was Team USA that ended up winning the Gold medal game 2-0.

For a team that was bolstering with first round draft picks and natural goal scorers, getting shut out is the ultimate loss, and blanking Team Canada is the ultimate testament to the USA’s resilience during the Gold medal game. They simply didn’t give Team Canada any space to breathe, and they definitely didn’t give them any space to score goals.

Team Canada is pretty used to winning this tournament, and getting shut out in a Gold medal game isn’t really in their usual repertoire. Just how rare was USA goalie Spencer Knight’s shutout of Team Canada at the World Juniors?

It’s never happened to Canada before in a Gold medal game.

Yeah, it’s THAT rare.

Spencer Knight was lights out for the USA all tournament long, and though Canada’s Devon Levi was awarded the nod for the tournament’s top goaltender, this entire tournament was definitely a big win for Florida Panthers fans.

BOTH of these talented goalies are Florida Panthers prospects, and Luongo didn’t know who to cheer for.

Congrats to both netminders on a huge tournament.
