Believe it or not, the Vegas Golden Knights are four wins away from being crowned as Stanley Cup champions.

Vegas cruised past the Winnipeg Jets in five games to punch their ticket to the big dance. But before earning a chance to hoist Lord Stanley’s Cup, they had to decide whether or not they should lift a different award.

Hockey fans are well aware of the difficult decision brought forth to conference winning teams; should they risk touching the trophy or not? Vegas decided to go full rogue and had assistant captain Deryk Engelland lift the Western Conference’s Clarence S. Campbell Bowl after the win.

The Golden Knights spiced things up after the opposite decision was made when the Nashville Predators defeated the Anaheim Ducks to advance to the 2017 Stanley Cup Finals. The eventual champion Pittsburgh Penguins, on the other hand, elected to lift the Prince of Wales Trophy. They wisely chose to do the same thing the year before as well.

There will always be a fuss over this issue, so time will tell if it ends up paying off for the Golden Knights. The Tampa Bay Lightning or Washington Capitals will be forced to face the same decision in the coming days.
