For the first time in two decades the Washington Capitals are heading to the Eastern Conference final and they advanced in the best way possible as they managed to finally eliminate the Pittsburgh Penguins.
It’s just the second time the Capitals have eliminated the Penguins in the postseason and the first time they’ve managed to do so in the Alex Ovechkin – Sidney Crosby rivalry era, so for the first time in the course of their impressive careers it was Crosby congratulating Ovechkin in the handshake line at the end of the series.
Nothing but class from these two fierce competitors.
The Capitals will now prepare for a series with the Tampa Bay Lightning. The two teams met three times during the regular season, where the Lightning took two of three games with one of the victories coming in overtime.
