On Tuesday afternoon, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman dropped the bomb that we’ve all been waiting for. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the league’s hiatus would come to an end and the NHL would return to play.

As everyone and their dog expected, they weren’t going to finish the regular season. They instead are going to jump into a 24-team playoff format and immediately begin duking it out for Lord Stanley’s mug.

With the end of the regular season officially being declared, it also clarifies some other facts we’ve all been waiting for. While the league admits they haven’t decided if any stats are final, and that there’s a chance they will include the play-in round in the final tally, we’ve got a pretty good idea.

And, in all likeliness, Sidney Crosby will be joining some extremely elite company.

Whenever you’re grouped together with Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemeiux, you’re doing something right. Those are two of the best point producers of all time, and considered by many to be ranked number one and two on the all-time list.

Even if the stats aren’t final, one fan crunched the numbers. It  seems like no matter what, Sid is rounding out the elite group.

Sid the Kid isn’t much of a kid anymore.
