NASCAR crews pride themselves on how quickly they’re able to get their drivers in and out of pit road, but in doing so they make themselves pretty vulnerable. Dealing with some of the fastest cars in the world, the clockwork-like crew members don’t leave much space for error.
While it usually works out impressively seamlessly, when you hear “pit road pileup” you know it’s a very scary situation. It’s not just the driver’s at risk on pit road, it’s the whole crew.
Ryan Blaney’s rear tire changer Zach Price felt the dangers of working on pit road when he was the primary victim of a pit road pileup. In all the chaos involving multiple cars, replays show Price getting pinched between Blaney’s No. 12 car and Brennan Poole’s No. 15 car.
As seen in the first video, Price was stretchered away in good spirits, with a smile and a thumbs up calming the nerves of all those watching. Apparently he suffered a leg injury, but is going to be alright.
