For years, the iconic banner of LeBron James’ chalk clap has stood opposite of the Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland. You’ve seen it, because it’s on every Cavs broadcast ever.

In the aftermath of LeBron James’ departure to the Los Angeles Lakers, Nike announced that the banner will be coming down.

The banner also came down after LeBron left in 2010, although the circumstances were different then, and there was much more animosity over the decision to leave. This time, fans have been nothing but gracious, especially since LeBron fulfilled his promise to deliver a championship. It wouldn’t have been unreasonable for the banner to stay up.

In the end, though, maybe it’d just be too awkward to have the banner up when LeBron’s Lakers come to town.

Don’t mistake this for any lack of gratitude for LeBron, however, as Cavs owner Dan Gilbert made clear in a gracious open letter to the superstar. Meanwhile, fans in Cleveland have showed up big time in the jersey sales department, eager to represent LeBron even in a Lakers jersey.

Looks like the fans in Cleveland are still going to have LeBron's back in L.A. 👀
