Once one of the best players in baseball, Matt Kemp has returned to the Los Angeles Dodgers franchise that drafted him and employed him through his peak years. Although there were some rumors that he would be traded or even released before the start of the season, Kemp emerged on Opening Day as the starting left fielder for the Dodgers.
How do Dodgers fans feel? After all, Kemp, 33, is well removed from his days as a Gold Glove-winning outfielder. At least one young Dodgers fan was willing to communicate this to his face:
Sheesh. This little kid was out for blood. See, this is actually an instructive example of the generational divide. If you grew up in, say, the ‘90s, you likely grew up roasting your friends on the playground. Today’s kids grow up roasting the entire world over the Internet. Matt Kemp never had a chance.
On the whole, however, it seems that Dodgers fans at large were excited to have their former star back in Dodgers blue, an oldie or not:
That makes the most sense, because, after all, we’re talking about a player who was a two-time All-Star, a two-time Gold Glove winner and a two-time Silver Slugger with the Dodgers at his best. Even if Kemp isn’t that now, he’s at the least an all-time great. So that helps.
Just maybe less so with little kids always willing to dunk on fools at a moment’s notice.
