The level of excitement around Sabrina Ionescu is just different. The only college basketball player to ever break the 2K-1K-1K threshold (career points, rebounds, assists), Ionescu is being heralded as the next great thing in women’s basketball, and the New York Liberty sure must be excited to have her after making it official with the first overall pick during Friday’s draft.

How unusual is the Ionescu hype? Well, within just an hour of her getting drafted by the Liberty, her jersey on the official WNBA store sold out.

Honestly, those seafoam greens might be one of the best colour bases for a jersey across any sport, so we get it. It does also illustrate the excitement around Ionescu right now, and her opportunity to build something new in basketball success-starved New York.

Along with Ionescu, the Liberty drafted three other players in the first round as well as two more in the second round. The youth movement is officially on, with a new core forming around Canadian All-Star Kia Nurse, and it’ll be exciting to find out what this new era of the team can do.

There’s a new duo in the Big Apple. 🍎👀
