After Russia lost to the United States in the semi-final round of the World Juniors, cameras captured Russian captain Klim Kostin visibly frustrated during the post-game ceremony, even tossing his helmet in disgust and cursing in the direction of the crowd.
After being shown the video, Kostin took to Twitter with a written apology, saying that how he conducted himself in the video was not the way that he wanted to represent himself, his family or his country.
It’s the World Juniors, and you can understand why tensions may have been running high — particularly in a 2-1 loss. You apologize and you move on, is about as much as you can do in situations like these. Kostin is currently a prospect in the St. Louis Blues system, drafted with the final pick of the first round in 2017.
This isn’t the first time that Kostin has found himself in some controversy during the tournament. When Russia played against Canada earlier in the tournament, Kostin made some waves with a rather memorable call-out of Canadian captain Max Comtois — remarkably, during the game’s first intermission.
