With the NCAA Women's Division I Basketball Tournament and March Madness returning this year, one of our favourite parts of all of the madness has been greatly missed.
The fans.
With only a certain capacity allowed to attend games, we’ve seen a few celebrity appearances from Loyola Chicago’s biggest fan Sister Jean and Joe Burrow as he cheered on Ohio-Creighton where his father was an assistant coach.
But during Tuesday night’s matchup between No. 1 Seed Stanford against No. 8 Seed Oklahoma State in the NCAA Women's Division I Basketball Tournament, a familiar face who holds a very special connection with a Cardinal player was in attendance.
Seattle Seahawks and Super Bowl XLVII Champion Russell Wilson was in attendance as his younger sister Anna competed in the second round for a spot within the Sweet 16.
As one of Stanford’s key players, the point guard had built her own legacy. From being a basketball star in high school to being a two-time Pac-12 Tournament champion on top of being the Pac-12 Co-Defensive Player of the Year, her basketball career is remarkable.
Though her journey to where she is at now hasn’t always been easy.
Suffering a concussion during practice for the McDonald’s All-American Game in 2016, her future within the sport was questionable as she suffered to rehabilitate and be the player she was prior to her injury.
Since Russ is known for building a career off of people doubting him, the two bonded over Anna’s doubts and she rebounded back better than before with his help.
It’s without a doubt big brother Russ would be in attendance as he’s one of her biggest supporters!
