Anyone who has ever watched a rugby match or has seen highlights from a game understands just how incredibly tough you have to be if you want to play the sport at any level.
The Waratahs and the Highlanders went head-to-head on Saturday night and the Australian and New Zealand rivalry was in full effect. In the 19th minute of the game, Highlanders wing Tevita Nabura received a red card for viciously kicking Waratahs utility back Cam Clark right in the face.
The Highlanders were in trouble after that as they were forced to play the remaining 62 minutes of the game down a man and it showed in the final score as they ended up losing 41-12.
Following the game, Clark commented on the play and showed no ill will towards Nabura in an interview with Georgina Robinson.
“I don’t have a martial arts background. It’s a tough one. You grow up as a back three player contesting high balls. He has obviously been taught to protect himself, use the hard parts of your body, and I guess it’s unlucky he’s kicked his foot out at the wrong time and got his timing wrong. But nothing [more] on my end. It’s happened, get on with the job.”
Clark deserves a lot of credit for how he handled himself on the play. Not only did he keep his cool and not try to retaliate, but he went on with the game and still managed to finish the tackle.
