Roy Halladay’s impact on the game of baseball in the city of Toronto and across Canada will forever be remembered amongst Jays fans when discussing the best players to ever represent the ball club.
Although Roy is no longer with us, his son Braden will look to continue to carry on the Halladay legacy in Canada, as he was named along with 32 others to Baseball Canada's Under-18 Junior National spring training roster.
During his time in Toronto, Roy’s wife Brandy gave birth to Braden, who was born in Toronto back in the year 2000, and is a chip off the old doc in the form of a long-limbed, right-handed pitcher.
Although Braden lives in Odessa, Florida, the 17-year-old chose to represent Canada at the National level. Based on numbers alone, Halladay would have a better chance representing Canada than the U.S. in competitive tournaments and championships. The Canadian club will play split-squad games nine games against up-and-coming prospects from the Orioles, Tigers, Phillies, Blue Jays and Rays in St. Petersburg, Florida.
The 6-3, 150-pound pitcher announced his commitment to play for the Penn State Nittany Lions roughly one month after the passing of his father.
The Canadian Baseball Network’s Bob Elliott first reported the Braden would be invited to the training camp in late February.
