The CFL is doing something really awesome this week in honour of the Humboldt Broncos hockey team as players from the eight teams with a Week 3 game will take the field with a Humboldt Strong decal on their helmets.
Aside from the special gesture by the teams around the league, the Saskatchewan Roughriders have dubbed Saturday night’s home game against the Montreal Alouettes as their Humboldt Strong Game and they’ve added something special to the field.
The Roughriders have added white ribbons on the 29-yard lines at Mosaic Stadium in honour of the 29 people who were on the Humboldt Broncos’ bus. On top of the special addition to the turf, the team will also show a video during the pre-game in honour of the hockey team and the Humboldt community, as well as well as on-field participation by the Broncos representatives in the national anthem and the coin toss ceremonies.
On top of the incredible gestures by the CFL and the teams in the league, Roughriders wide receiver/defensive back Duron Carter made it known ahead of the season that he’ll donate money to families affected by the tragedy for every touchdown he scores.
