At 38 years of age, Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Ron Hainsey only has so much patience in the NHL now, and yesterday it became pretty evident that dealing with a rookie yelling at him in the box isn’t; one of them.
Hainsey and Florida Panthers forward Jayce Hawryluk each got dinged for roughing penalties in the Leafs’ 7-5 win last night, and things continued to get heated as the two headed to the box. Well, on one side at least. Hawyluk continued to lay into the veteran but Hainsey appeared to have absolutely zero interest in dealing with him. Watch, as he just completely iced him from his side of the sin bin.
What a boss! One fan was pretty quick to pick up on what went down.
Hainsey’s setting a pretty good example for how all players should act in the show, because some don’t quite possess the same badd@$$ attitude. We’ve seen players jaw back and forth from their respective side of the box and even worse, we’ve seen players actually retaliate to fan chirping. Let’s remember this little incident from last season when Washington capitals forward Devante Smith-Pelly shpritzed a fan with some water (or attempted to at least). Come on man, just pull a Hainsey and ignore the guy!
And then there was Tie Domi, who just had no control at all…
Hainsey isn’t regarded as one of the funnier Maple Leafs, but this certainly helped him work his way up the ranks.
