The 2020 NFL season so far has featured a number of rookies showing that the future of the league has arrived. Joe Burrow (before the injury) and Justin Herbert have been slinging it in their inaugural campaign, while the wide receiver class has proved to be so talented we’re actually worried we may miss a big name. Justin Jefferson, CeeDee Lamb, Jerry Jeudy, Tee Higgins, Chase Claypool…

Not to be overlooked is one man in particular, who has developed debatably the most distinct “cult following” of any rookie; first year Indianapolis Colts kicker Rodrigo Blankenship.

If you don’t know who this is, you may immediately think that the entertainment value comes solely from his name. While his name is absolutely in the all-time name Hall of Fame, he has the exact look you would hope for. The former Georgia kicker sports massive goggles while putting the fate of the Colts on his boot.

Not only is he sort of just a funny player in general, he’s also a great kicker! His 94 total points are just two points shy of the league lead, and that lead is held by Ryan Succop who hasn’t had his bye week yet.

If you had three guesses as to what Blankenship was doing before finding out he had been drafted to the Colts, it’s very possible that you may have nailed it. Blankenship is making it increasingly difficult to not call him Rookie Personality of the Year.
