Robin Lehner did not hold back with blunt comment about playing in Buffalo

Robin Lehner is long removed from playing in Buffalo, but he hasn’t forgotten about his three-season tenure with there.

After earning a nomination for the 2019 Vezina trophy, Lehner is off to another stellar start with the Chicago Blackhawks, earning a .939 save percentage with a 2.22 GAA. But before his stats received a boost, Lehner saw a dip during his time in Buffalo as a result of playing for what he believed to be arguably the worst defensive team in the league.

After a 3-2 win over the ducks in which he stopped 36-38 shots, the 28-year-old took a jab at his former squad.

To provide some context behind Lehner’s statement, here’s a stat to back him up: Buffalo finished ninth (30.6), first (34.3) and 10^th (32.7) in shots against per game during Lehner’s time with the team. The Swede managed to average a respectable .917 save percentage but failed to register a winning season. Buffalo has not made it to the postseason since 2011.

The Hawks will take on the Sabres on November 17 in what should be a ‘revenge game’ of sorts for Lehner. We have a feeling he’ll be getting the call that night.
