It speaks to the caliber of player that Sidney Crosby is, that something as difficult as batting the puck out of mid-air for a goal is something that he’s become known for making a habit of. (We’ll add, though, that Washington’s Alex Ovechkin and Toronto’s Connor Brown also pulled it off in last season’s playoffs.)

Not bad company at all for 17-year-old Reece Newkirk of the WHL’s Portland Winterhawks. Watching a shot from the point deflect high off the crossbar, Newkirk is in the right place and swings at the right time to catch the goalie clueless.

While we’re here talking about a Crosby-esque goal, let’s add a little more fuel to the fire by adding that Connor McDavid has managed it too — and in brilliant fashion, somehow tapping his own rebound in for an OT winner against Latvia in this year’s IIHF World Championship.

The Winterhawks have made the rounds before, although for a bit of genius that came off the ice. Last year, they got into the holiday spirit with a hilarious rendition of Mariah Carey’s hit ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You.’
