The 11th annual Bell Let's Talk Day has officially begun and it’s time to have conversations about mental health and end the stigmas associated with it.

Mental illnesses do not measure a person and is something that many people struggle with, regardless of where they may be at within their lives. Each person's story is unique and different.

Following the global pandemic, mental health has become an even greater issue given the new reality we’re all still trying to figure out day by day.

In an effort to shed light on mental health, Matt Thomas of the Toronto Raptors sat down with Open Gym to share how he believes everyone, especially young people should practice ways to stay afloat within such trivial times.

​“Your mind and your mental health is truly everything. So for kids, for them it’s just not trying to internalize everything yourself, would be my best advice. That’s something I’m still currently working on you know, if you have people in your life that you can seek out, people that you trust, at least speaking from personal experience, it’s always helped me feel better about whatever was going on.”

He additionally shares how sleep and meditation are things he tries to assure he does enough of as they both go hand in hand with physical and mental health.

Foremost, he shares how speaking up if you’re struggling and finding a support system that works for you is so important.
