It isn’t often that fans can or honestly should get excited over the 29th overall pick in the draft, but the Toronto Raptors have consistently hit on players in the draft or even those undrafted, so their 2020 first round pick Malachi Flynn is already someone that Raps faithful are excited for.
Part of the reason? As a 6’1 point guard with great pick-and-roll play and a proud defensive mindset, Flynn is drawing a lot of comparisons to Fred VanVleet. In fact, he’s even the one making those comparisons himself.
In fact, before the draft, Flynn was working out with VanVleet. While VanVleet is about to enter free agency, the Raptors certainly hope that they’ll be able to bring FVV back, which means Flynn would have the opportunity to develop under two great point guards in FVV as well as Kyle Lowry.
If fans loved the original so much, think they’re excited for Fred VanVleet 2.0? The answer, of course, is obviously yes.
