Roll out the chili and wings because it’s almost time for the Super Bowl, folks.

As we'll see Tom Brady take on Patrick Mahomes for the Buccaneers vs. Chiefs match up for Super Bowl LV, we also get the chance to see The Weeknd take the stage during the halftime show.

So then we thought about it. There are two different types of people that usually watch the biggest sporting event of the year:

People who are football fans and people who simply love the spectacle and performances. Sometimes the two even cross over!

So this article goes out to all of the people who tune in to the Super Bowl and watch the halftime show. The people who end up at their friend's Super Bowl parties for the good times and end up captivated by the special guests. The people who tune in almost every year to see Tom Brady dominate but end up getting mesmerized for 15 minutes.

We’re going to break down the top five Super Bowl halftime show performances of the 2000s.

5. Jennifer Lopez and Shakira - Super Bowl LIV (2020)

We won’t lie, thinking back to a year ago I don’t think too many of us would have dubbed both Jennifer Lopez and Shakira to be on the top tier list of Super Bowl performances but the two of them absolutely proved us wrong.

Bringing out special guests Bad Bunny, J.Balvin, and even J-Lo’s daughter Emmie, the show had everyone watching. They also brought the very important nostalgia factor by performing some of their early 2000’s hits. These two both did not lose their touch. Singing and dancing perfectly. At the same time. These two put on QUITE the show.

And most importantly, they gave us this video of Shakira that broke the internet and A-Rod dancing in a crowd of teenagers.

4. Beyoncé and Destiny’s Child - Super Bowl XLVII (2013)

NOSTALGIA FACTOR TO THE MAX.

Seeing Destiny’s Child come back together for this one performance made every early 2000’s kids dream come true. Throughout the show, Beyoncé had everyone absolutely losing their mind and dancing along.

Honestly, this performance was almost like the Super Bowl was the halftime show of a Beyoncé concert.

3. Lady Gaga - Super Bowl LI (2017)

We’re just going to start this off by saying Lady Gaga literally jumped out off the roof and down onto the stage before singing Poker Face. Enough said.

But actually, Gaga always puts on a show and the Super Bowl LI halftime show was not any different. Even though we weren’t at NRG stadium, we felt the energy all the way from our couches.

And also, a major factor! The Gaga jumping meme became one of the highlights of 2017.

2. Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Nelly, P. Diddy and Kid Rock - Super Bowl XXXVIII (2004)

Do we even need to explain why this performance is on this list? Jessica Simpson introducing the show, Janet Jackson performing It’s All For You, Nelly being brought out in a red car, and P. Diddy wearing a Julius Peppers jersey while performing It’s Hot in Herre (which is actually pretty funny considering Peppers was in the Hot in Herre video).

All of it screams the early 2000s and gives us the ultimate sense of the word nostalgia.

Oh, and of course the whole Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake controversy that, well we all know what we’re talking about here. Timberlake coming out and performing Rock Your Body before the two of them caused an uproar in pretty much every family home across the country.

It was just like watching a music video on MTV, just live. The performance rates so high for a large factor that it was pretty much a turning point for half time shows going forward and remains one of the most remembered,

1. Prince - Super Bowl XLI (2007)

We’re pretty sure it goes without mention that Prince was an amazing performer. His songs had a way of getting people out of their seats and dancing almost immediately. So when he brought all of the vibes during the Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts meeting in the Super Bowl XLI halftime show, it’s almost an understatement.

Prince’s classic purple lighting up Dolphin Stadium while he played a cover of We Will Rock You to start the show-off. During his performance, Prince additionally covered songs from various artists such as the Foo Fighters, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Bob Dylan, while also playing his own classics such as Let’s Go Crazy and Baby I’m a Star.

But a moment that sets this performance above and beyond the others is Prince’s delivery of Purple Rain that almost seemed like it was straight out of a movie. An entirely purple lit stadium as it begins to rain in Miami, while Prince performs his signature song is honestly a sight to see.

We just know without a doubt Prince had Peyton Manning busting a move while in the locker room before the Colts secured their first Super Bowl win. Plus there was a marching band, so by default he wins for giving us all of the Bubble Dome SpongeBob Vibes.

Honourable Mention

We wanted to toss in the 2001 Super Bowl XXXV because we didn’t have it in us to put this performance in the “it crushed our expectations'' category but it was definitely something. This halftime show takes the nostalgia factor to an entirely different level because the line up in itself was almost like the NFL tossed a few names in a hat and picked those artists to perform.

N’SYNC, Aerosmith, Britney Spears, Nelly, and Mary J. Blige. There’s just a lot of hair gel and metallic outfits in this performance to even keep up with what’s going on but you know what?

We actually kind of love it.
