Twas, the night before Opening Day.
And though we won’t be able to attend live games at least for the foreseeable future, we can’t help but reminisce on those days at the ballpark.
The sun is out, you have your favourite jersey and cap on, the fans are cheering, and the sound of the bat popping honestly sounds like the most beautiful song of summer.
But we can’t help but think about one of the most vital parts of visiting a stadium...What food are we grabbing in between innings!?
Usually, a hot dog and some peanuts would suffice, but as stadiums are striving to excel in more ways than just on the field, the food options at ballparks have become almost like an episode of MasterChef and honestly, we’re here for it.
We’re so here for it that we’ve decided to rank the top six most unique food options at MLB ballparks.
6. Bone-In Smoked Beef Short Ribs
Shockingly this is not Medieval Times, but this is what the Washington Nationals have been selling since 2019 at Nationals Park. Served on a stick, this seems like an incredibly hard meal to eat but is kind of beautiful in the same breath? The days of corn on the cob are long gone, it’s all about giant slabs of smoke beef on sticks! We’re just not quite sure what about this meal is exactly short.
5. Coney Dog Eggroll
Out of all of the food options on this list, we actually would love to try this one the most. What sounds better than a chilli cheese dog eggroll!? Apparently, Coney Dogs are taken very, VERY seriously in Detroit so having this unique twist on the food sounds like it’d be a crowd favourite. Sign us up!
4. Toasted Grasshoppers
We won’t lie, this snack just isn’t for us but hey it probably tastes great! As one of the best-selling concession items at Seattle Mariners games since 2017, toasted grasshoppers are a popular source of protein and are derived from Oaxaca, Mexico! It’s like healthier popcorn!
3. The Blooper Burger
No kidding the Atlanta Braves came out with this insane burger because you need to be brave to even take a bite of it. Made out of items we only can assume someone pulled out of a hat, it contains burgers (yes multiple), hot dogs, chicken tenders, cheese sauce and is sandwiched between two pieces of Texas Toast. This burger in itself could feed a family of four! This may be one food we’d be happy to skip.
2. Fowl Pole
We’re not even sure what we’re looking at here. The Texas Rangers have crafted a two-pound chicken tender which is served on top of a bunch of french fries with dipping sauces. After seeing the size of this monster, we can’t imagine still being hungry for a giant bed of fries but if someone still can, ALL FOR THEM. Honestly, a never-ending chicken tender sounds like every chicken tendy lover's dream.
Oh, and it has a case to carry it in.
1. The Slider
Okay, we need to ask who made this concept up and why. The only thing that is making sense about this hot dog covered in bacon, mac and cheese and fruit loops is that it’s from Cleveland. We can’t even grasp what exactly this would taste like and that’s what makes it so unsettling for us. But look, we’re always down to try new foods so hey maybe a road trip to Progressive Field is in our future!
