Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko had himself a playoff debut to remember, and his defenceman Quinn Hughes thinks he knows the keys to his success.
Demko made 42 saves on 43 shots to earn his first postseason win and helped the Canucks force a Game 6, and apparently it all comes down to two very simple decisions; good eating, and good sleeping. In a Canucks presser, Hughes claimed that Demko’s success was due to going to sleep early and eating well. He also made sure to mention that the 25-year-old is a gamer, but that apparently doesn’t interrupt his sleeping schedule all that much.
The following is an excerpt from The Province:
“He’s a gamer. He goes to bed early and eats the right way. We knew when he got the chance that he would be pretty dialled in, and I don’t think anybody was surprised with how well he did, to be honest. We know how good he is.
Wait… don’t most players go to bed early and eat the wrong way?! Apparently not!
It hasn’t been all smooth saying for Demko up to this point of his career. The Canucks’ 2014 36th overall pick was limited to just 16 games with the Utica Comets in the 2018-19 season after suffering a concussion and recorded a 3.06 GAA in 27 games this past year. Demko took over the crease as a result of an injury to starting goaltender Jacob Markstrom.
Vancouver is set to take on Vegas Thursday night and Demko appears to be in line for some more action. Time will tell if he can replicate his success, but one thing is certain… the dude was definitely lights out before 10:15 on Wednesday night.
