Jamie Oleksiak has had a whirlwind of a week and a half after being selected to join the Seattle Kraken in the Expansion Draft. The big defenceman is looking forward to getting to know his new teammates better, but there’s something else he’s excited about too.

His sister Penny, the most decorated Canadian Olympian of all-time, at the Olympics.

Penny has grabbed three more medals in Tokyo to bring her total to seven, the latest coming in the 4x100m relay medley. The 21-year-old passed Cindy Klassen and Clara Hughes for the most medals in Canadian history.

Jamie, watching from home with the family, could not be more proud of her. Speaking with Mark Masters, the older brother discussed how proud he was, and also mentioned how swimming has integrated into his own training regime. With the handicap of a huge head start, he’s looking forward to taking on his sister in a friendly race as well!

Jokes aside, Jamie is hugely proud of his sister. He discussed the thrill of watching from home, and how her mental toughness is something that really shines through for him.

What a family.
