If it were up to NHL agent Pat Brisson, things would have been handled a little differently with his client's recent trade to Winnipeg. It has nothing to do with the team he landed on, but rather his former squad, particularly the head coach.
Anyone could have seen John Tortorella blowing this whole thing up into a bigger deal than it needed and his behaviour unsurprisingly did not fit right with Brisson. For starters, Torts expressed his confusion over PLD’s desire to leave and then admitted after the trade that he and the 22-year-old had their differences in the past. Well, it was Brisson’s turn to speak out and he didn’t exactly hold back while discussing the way in which his former client’s bench boss dealt with the situation.
Here’s what he had to say according to TSN’s hockey insider Darren Dreger:
"From Day 1 of camp, John Tortorella wanted to expose Pierre-Luc Dubois. This included going on (the) radio the second week, which made it more difficult for (general manager Jarmo Kekalainen) to do his job. Now, he continues to use different media platforms trying to justify his position."
Perhaps he raised a good point?
Dubois has stayed firm on not wanting to leave due to Torts, but it’s not like he would have been the first player to want to leave for another team during his tenure. Just look at what Marian Gaborik shared during the whole debacle.
What’s done is done, but you just know the next Jets vs. Blue Jackets match is going to be a spicy one when the two teams eventually meet. It will be interesting to see how things go for Patrik Laine in his new home!
