The Philadelphia Flyers acquired Petr Mrazek from the Detroit Red Wings one week ahead of this year’s trade deadline after Brian Elliott and Michal Neuvirth both landed on the injured reserve list just over a week apart.
Mrazek has started eight of the 10 games since joining the Flyers and has posted a 4-3-1 record to go along with a 2.82 goals against average and a .899 save percentage. After playing the first bunch of games in a plain white mask that featured nothing but a bunch of Flyers logos and his number, the 26-year-old had something special made up for the rest of his time in Philadelphia.
The former fifth round draft pick didn’t just put aside part of his mask for a Broad Street Bullies tribute, he dedicated the entire thing to them.
Designed by David Gunnarsson, the top of the mask includes special tributes to Dave Schultz, Bobby Clarke and Bernie Parent, while a giant 1974-75 Broad Street Bullies banner is draped across the front of the mask over white tape and the sides include the Flyers logo.
Mrazek rocked his new mask for the first time on Saturday against the Winnipeg Jets and he put together a solid performance, stopping 27 of 28 shots for a 2-1 victory.
