With the NHL All-Star break upon us, we’re already feeling like we’re lacking our regularly-scheduled hockey fix. While the All-Star game is always a nice change, we definitely miss good ol’ regular season hockey amid the action.

Lucky for us, though, the CHL trade deadline has passed, and clubs across the country have loaded up to make brilliant playoff runs,  providing us with an excellent source of entertainment and distraction.

Because who doesn’t love a little junior hockey action?

Tonight, when the OHL’s Peterborough Petes played host to the Saginaw Spirit,  Petes’ goalie and rookie Tye Austin, who’s only played a surprising 11 career OHL games, was the hero on the powerplay when he denied the Spirit not once, but twice in a row.

Austin first denied Islanders’ draft pick Damien Giroux, before shutting the door on D.J. Busdeker just milliseconds later.

The stunning sequence came on the penalty kill, and Austin managed to keep his Petes’ within one, and he faced 38 shots in total through the duration of the tilt.

Despite these saves, the Petes came up just short, falling 5-4 to the Spirit, who currently sit third in the opposite conference.

Let’s not forget, though, that this is the same team that produced one of the OHL’s only goalie goals last season, so we definitely think that their goalie coach needs a significant raise.

That’s a beauty!
