The Atlanta Thrashers were not a successful franchise in the National Hockey League. They had they bright moments, but they only made the playoffs once in team history.
For a league that has more than half the teams make the playoffs, that’s just not enough.
However, they do still hold some relevance in the NHL. Their franchise has turned into an exciting young team in Winnipeg, but lately, they’ve been used to roast NHL teams through comparison. After not being a subpar team for most of their existence and now not existing for six years, people are using them as a checkpoint for stats.
These two posts surfaced on Reddit today:
We really hope this becomes a bigger trend. Here are a couple others:
- The Colorado Avalanche are on pace for 50 points. The last team to finish with 50 or less points in a full season was the 1999-2000 Atlanta Thrashers (Their first season).
- The Atlanta Thrashers have more recently had a 30-goal scorer than the Detroit Red Wings (Thrashers: 2009-10 Ilya Kovalchuk. Red Wings: 2008-09 Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg & Marian Hossa).
- The Atlanta Thrashers have made the playoffs more recently than the Edmonton Oilers (Thrashers: 2006-07. Oilers: 2005-06). Luckily for them that will change this season.
If you have any Atlanta Thrashers disses saved up about your favourite team let us know on Twitter @BarDown and we’ll put them in the bottom of this post.
