Deciding to play for his hometown St. Louis Blues was the best decision of Pat Maroon’s career as it happened to be the season the franchise captured their first ever Stanley Cup.
The 31-year-old played a key role in the team’s championship run, as he scored the game-winning goal in double overtime in Game 7 against the Dallas Stars in the second round, but this offseason he signed a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
As a result, Maroon ended up missing the banner raising ceremony and the ring presentation. However, on Tuesday night the Lightning made their lone visit to St. Louis and the Blues had a special mini pre-game ceremony set up for the St. Louis native.
The Blues put together a video tribute for Maroon to start things off and the crowd welcomed him back with a standing ovation as he finally received his Stanley Cup ring.
Maroon might be rocking a different shade of blue these days, but he’ll be a Stanley Cup champion and loved by Blues fans forever.
