The New York City native was the 4th NBA commissioner and he spent 30 years as the man in charge of the NBA. During that time he helped take the game worldwide and played a massive role in turning the NBA into the league and franchise that is today.

So, when the news broke that Stern had passed away, past and present NBA players took to social media to share heartwarming stories and pay their respects to the former commissioner.

Stern helped welcome 7 new franchises to the NBA (Raptors, Hornets, Timberwolves, Magic, Grizzlies, Bobcats, Heat) and relocated 6 NBA franchises (Clippers, Kings, Grizzlies, Nets, Hornets and SuperSonics), on top of founding the WNBA in 1996 and the NBA G League (formerly the NBA D-League) in 2001.
