Steph Curry has attracted a lot of haters since the Warriors became a dominant force in the NBA, but even the people that don’t like him are tipping their cap to a moment after Game 5.
The Warriors surprisingly lost Game 5 on the road to Houston and the team will have to win two straight elimination games to advance to the NBA Finals. And that happened with James Harden shooting 0/11 from three. With Harden not on his game, Chris Paul stepped up huge and probably the most memorable moment of the game came about midway through when Paul hit a ridiculous three in Curry’s face and shimmied right in front of him.
Of course, NBA fans went crazy for the shade (Curry often shimmies on other people, so Paul was actually imitating him), but Curry accepted the L gracefully.
That is sportsmanship at its finest. Curry knows he was bested in Game 5 and we’re sure he’ll be looking to get back at Paul on the court rather than whining after the game.
What this relates most to for us are reactions in hockey and baseball when someone celebrates and everybody loses their minds. The easiest example is always to go back to Jose Bautista’s bat flip in 2015. Sam Dyson and many other Rangers players whined for a long time after the game and it went as far as leading to Bautista getting punched in the face the next season.
The same goes for hockey for examples like people getting upset by Evegeny Kuznetsov’s bird celly, basically anything P.K. Subban does or even thinking back to Artem Anisimov’s sniper celly from 2011.
There’s no reason to lose your cool about something like this, just get back at them on the scoreboard and if you do, you can celebrate however you want.
