Every football fan knows how valuable the running back position is due to the fact that once a back hits the age of 30, their career is essentially over.
Add in the fact that the length of a running back's career is very short compared to other positions and it's easy to understand why having a good back is very important even though the NFL has somewhat turned into a passing league.
While teams have steered clear of drafting running backs in the first round in recent years (10 since 2010), the Cowboys proved that sometimes it's good to take a chance on a highly touted one early in the first round.
The Minnesota Vikings can also attest to that as they drafted Adrian Peterson 7th overall in 2007 and he's had a Hall of Fame career carrying the Vikings on his back for many years.
This offseason, though, could see the end of that marriage as Peterson's salary of $11.75 million for 2017 coupled with injury concerns could lead the Vikings to part ways with their all-time rushing leader.
If that does end up happening, you can bet Peterson will attract some attention from many teams. Although he's 31, he's also not human as he's proved in the past.
Wednesday night, AP kickstarted the rumour mill by sending out this tweet, which in turn sent the internet into a frenzy.
The moves Peterson's referring to are the Giants deciding to cut Victor Cruz and let their leading rusher from last season, Rashad Jennings, walk.
According to teamrankings.com, the Giants ranked 29th in rushing yards per game last season, so if Peterson does in fact get cut, it makes sense he'd be thinking about going to the Big Apple, and that has fans excited.
It's going to be an interesting offseason to say the least.
