‘Tis the season to feel some glee, and that’s definitely what Oliver Wahlstrom was feeling this afternoon when he earned himself the honours of skating on the new UBS Arena ice first. If you don’t think this would have mattered to the players, just take a look at his face after he won.
Oh, it definitely matters!
It’s unclear whether Ross Johnston and Wahlstrom were the only ones to compete for the honour (they are the only two we have video evidence of), or whether this was part of some larger tournament amongst all the players. Some may pretend like they don’t care, but getting to be the first one on the ice would be cool for anyone.
Regardless of whether or not they were able to be first on the ice, the players seemed pretty thrilled to have a new home… finally!
We’re looking forward to seeing them perform at home, which they finally get to do Saturday against the Calgary Flames.
