Things got ugly at the end of Game 6 between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia flyers.
The game got out of hand after Penguins forward Jake Guentzel scored four straight goals to put his team ahead. With the game out of reach, Philadelphia fans let their emotions get the best of them and proceeded to throw cans of beer onto the ice. As the bevies came flying down, Penguins defenceman Jamie Oleksiak hovered over teammate Bryan Rust to protect him from the onslaught.
Penguins nation was having known of the beer tossing and expressed their displeasure on Twitter.
The best part of the ordeal came after the game during a Sidney Crosby interview, in which he criticized Flyers fans for wasting beer.
The battle of Pennsylvania has long been one of the game’s strongest rivalries but it’s never a good sign when fans are throwing objects onto the ice. Flyers fans will have to wait another year for their team to strike revenge on their cross-state foe.
