Not too long ago, in a September just like this one, the Blue Jays started one of the most exciting stretches of their franchise’s history. Since then, a lot has changed.
There is probably no better way to show this kind of change then a shirt that lists their 2015 playoff roster. 2015 was the year of the bat flip and several other epic moments against the Rangers and Royals, and the excitement had become infectious across Canada. One fan posted a picture of their roster shirt and crossed out the names that were no longer with the team… it’s mostly crossed out names.
Even the names that remain on the shirt, just aren’t the same. Pompey was considered a top prospect in baseball, Aaron Sanchez and Marcus Stroman were looking like they’d be the Franchise’s 1-2 punch for years to come and Russell Martin was premiere catchers in the league, Devon Travis looked like he could be an all-star infielder and Tulo was still showing flashes of his MVP-caliber play.
Now, everyone else is gone and things are looking grim in Toronto. At least fans have Vladdy Jr. and Bo Bichette to look forward to, but not even that will be happening this September. They will play in the Arizona Fall League to close out their seasons.
