Oilers fans and Leafs fans have never been particularly big rivals, but there is one battle that some fans have started engaging in at a level beyond wins and losses: McDavid vs. Matthews.
At this point in their careers, most people agree there’s not much of a debate.
McDavid appears to be a generationally talented player, like Sidney Crosby was before him and in this offseasons player ranks, almost every publication listed McDavid as the #1 player in the world. Still, this Oilers fan wanted to rub Leafs’ fans noses in it a little more and did so using an Oilers jersey.
He’s rocking the number 97 as if it was a McDavid jersey, but instead of putting that on the name bar, he chose “Auston Who”.
We’re sure most people would choose to just wear a McDavid jersey, but we assume his goal with this jersey was to rile up Leafs fans and he clearly succeeded. Still, we’re not sure how many hockey fans would even consider McDavid vs. Matthews a real competition.
Even the biggest of Leafs fans hesitates when putting Matthews among the elite players in the league.
